The Law Society's Equity Initiatives Department coordinates the Equity and Diversity Mentorship Program which matches lawyers with high school, university including law school, and Licensing Process students. The program, launched in 1999, aims to encourage students from various equity-seeking communities to consider law as a career. As well, the program offers support and guidance to law school students, Licensing Process students and to newly called lawyers.

Through the program, students can gain insight into the practice of law by spending time in a lawyer's workplace, observing courtroom work, and by attending Law Society public education programs.

Members can also participate in the public education program for students by volunteering to speak to groups of students who attend educational events at the Law Society.

The program is supported by school boards and community agencies, along with many other legal associations, such as the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, the Feminist Legal Analysis Committee of the Ontario Bar Association, Rotiio'taties, and the Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario (AJEFO).

If you have any questions about the program or are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact the Equity Initiatives Department through the Resource Centre at (416) 947-3315 or 1-800-668-7380 ext. 3315 or by e-mail.
